No. 837 Spiders magic wand

$60.00

13 1/4 inch lathe turned, hand carved, and pyrographed wormy oak wood magic wand

This wand is one of a collection that I did in October for the online prompt series, Inktober. The group inktober presents artists with a list of 31 halloween themed prompt words, and the artists are to do an individual drawing for each word on each day. I decided to take it one step further and create a unique wand for each days word. I called it Wandtober. The task was quite a gauntlet, harder than I thought it would be. But I am very happy with the results.

The wand I present you with here is Wandtober #2 Spiders. I lathe turned a knuckley, taper from grizzled oak, cut the joints on slight angles and reattached the pieces into a form that resembles a spider leg. After that I wood burned a mob of spiders emanating from the handle.

Oak is one of the more powerful, sacred woods. its leans towards being masculine, and is of the Earth element, although I’ve seen it attributed to fire and lightning as well. It’s use is varied, with protection defense and prosperity at the forefront, its also good for scrying and divination. Known as the wizard wood, it’s a calm, grounded, and centered wood that is good for beginners.
